Global Psychology Alliance

I wanted to take a post to highlight the incredible work of the Global Psychology Alliance (GPA). A group driven by the American Psychology Association (APA), with Psychologists from all over the World, who are “actively addressing global issues using psychological science to elevate the field and enhance human well-being around the world”

A few years ago, I answered a call for Global Mentors via the Psychological Society of Ireland, and I was paired with an incredible Clinical Psychologist in Tanzania who does amazing work in the area of climate change and mental health. This was my first exposure to the APA and a global network of Psychologists, as we worked together on the Learning Leadership Institute. I was blown away by the passion and calibre of the Mentors and Mentees, many of whom were focused on supporting climate change initiatives.

Every few years the GPA hosts an International Summit of Psychologists, and this year we are travelling to Jamaica. We will hear from younger Psychologists, we will debate the AI issues, and perhaps most importantly we will co-create a roadmap for how we can work together across psychology disciplines and geographies for our collective greater good. I am honoured to be one of four facilitators for the Summit, and have really enjoyed the months of preparation work that is going into making this a stellar event.

Sometimes it can be hard to have hope in the face of all that we hear about, and our collective fears that we are running out of time. I think absence of hope can lead to absence of action though, and so I wanted to share the amazing work that is being done here, by Psychologists around the World. I will do another post next month, sharing more details of the positive news stories and about the amazing professionals that I am set to meet. Watch this space. Have HOPE!
